I'm back with another book review! I recently finished this book (affiliate link) that I have had for awhile. And now I'm kicking myself for not reading it sooner! It is an expanded edition of Ellen Notbohm's and Veronica Zysk's original book that was published in 2004. This 2010 edition actually has over 1800 ideas.
Obviously, some of the terminology is a bit outdated. However, the premise is the same and ideas are wonderful. It covers sensory integration, communication, behavior, daily living, social skills, and collaboration between professionals and parents. It is organized wonderfully. You can quickly reference ideas for fire drills, birthday parties, visual prompts, food aversions, and everything in between.
I STRONGLY recommend this book for parents of kids with Autism. The authors do an amazing job of explain some of the nuances of Autism without being stereotypical or lumping all children with Autism together. They make it VERY clear that their ideas are not a one-size-fits-all recommendation.
This book is a great addition to my professional library. I will use it as a reference point when working through problems that parents report. It's a cheap buy (probably due to it's age) and worth every penny (and then some).
